Astrology Readings: What to Expect and How to Prepare
Choose a reading that fits your question, budget, and comfort with uncertainty.
Start with the kind of conversation you want
An astrology reading interprets a chart using the astrologer's chosen tradition. A natal consultation usually discusses recurring themes; a relationship session compares charts; a transit session considers how current planetary positions relate to a natal chart. These are different services. Before paying, ask which one you are buying, how long it lasts, and whether a written summary is included. A clear description matters more than an impressive list of spiritual labels.
Prepare useful birth information
Many chart readings use your birth date, time, and place. Record where the time came from: a birth certificate, a family recollection, or an estimate. An uncertain time can change the ascendant and house placements. Tell the astrologer about that uncertainty before the appointment. If you do not know the time, ask what can still be discussed and which conclusions should be left open.
Bring questions you can act on
Questions such as 'What patterns do I repeat when I avoid conflict?' leave room for reflection. Questions demanding the exact date of a promotion or a guaranteed romantic outcome invite claims a chart cannot establish. You can ask for practical prompts, but decisions about employment, money, treatment, or legal matters need appropriate evidence and qualified advice.
Agree on boundaries before booking
Set a spending limit and decide which subjects are off limits. Ask about cancellation, recording, confidentiality, and follow-up charges. Leave if the reader uses fear to sell an urgent ritual or additional session. A thoughtful consultation should make room for your judgment. Astrology is an interpretive practice; it is not a reliable way to verify facts about another person or guarantee future events.
